I live in Richwood and all you hear all day and night long are the sounds of sirens from police cars and ambulances flying down Platterkloof. The speed control on this road should be drastectly reduced.

      Kala - 2012-04-19 11:23

Speed control should be drastically reduced???? I'm sure thats a typo Carolyn.

      exile13 - 2012-04-19 11:39

carolyn is a typo. the problem can not be solved by enforcing speed, but getting people to change the way they drive! having losers doing 110km.h in the fast lane on the down hill is stupendous! yield the lane! get your economically under-powered import out of the way of the people who can drive!

      Kala - 2012-04-19 12:11

Exile13 - You make no sense.

      Cherri - 2012-04-19 13:55

Exile, what are you on about?? This road isn't the freeway, the maximum speed on it is 80km and Carolyn is right, people treat it like Kyalami. Next time, if you have nothing positive to contribute, rather say nothing, it'll make you look less ignorant.

      CliveK - 2012-04-19 15:28

You mean speed controls should be enforced, surely Carolyn? And Exile 13, the tone of your "contribution" reeks of agression - just what we have too much of on our roads. Although I fully agree with you about slow drivers in the right-hand lane - which does not make them "losers", many accidents are caused by people driving fast cars which they don't know how to handle.

      exile13 - 2012-04-19 15:45

"The incident happened on the N1"...

      Arthur - 2012-05-17 08:59

Oh please - often I've done 125 / 130 in the fast lane on the freeway and there's some chop who comes screaming up to within an inch of my rear, even when he can clearly see there's no room for me to pull over into the slow lane immediately. Then when there IS a gap and I indicate to move they accelerate past me in the slow lane. I can drive well (never had an accident) because I'm aware constantly of other vehicles - but that kind of aggression is what leads to accidents - whether you're doing 60km/h or 120. Go fast when the road is clear, slow down and be careful when it's not, and be respectful and patient of other drivers. I've also noticed how many people have been running red lights (sometimes as many as three cars) and hardly even yielding at 4 way stops. Does my head in.

    Truly sad. Rest in peace.

most people should never touch a steering wheel

  • Riana - 2012-04-19 13:43

You don't have any clue as to the circumstances of this accident. Unfortunately one of the passengers who died is a father of a baby barely 1 year old - He didn't come home last night... This morning his wife was still unaware of what happened! Have some sympathy and say a prayer for her and her baby! Have some respect! This is a Tragic Accident! Anything could have happened. This could have happened to someone close to you too! Would you then call it Stupendous or call them losers??

      Ally - 2012-04-19 13:55

Riana, this was probably not an "accident" but rather was probably caused by negligence. It was simply a crash in which people died. So it's tragic that a young child is now fatherless.

Thank you riana. We still dont know what happened. And yes a little baby is looking for her daddy who will never come home. So sad and heartbreaking irrispective of how it happened.

People judge WAY to quickly and get all excited and ready to bring out their boxing gloves too fast! Anything could have happend. A burst tyre, something in the road making them swerve, the guy had a attack of some sort. Just cause there is motor vehical accidents, does not ALWAYS mean its somebodies fault. so lets stop jumping the gun, point fingers, calling names etc etc and start praying to God that the deceased souls may rest in peace and that their family find some help with dealing with the loss of the very loved ones. Come now, we grown ups people.let act like it :(

  • sandra.grobler - 2012-04-25 05:58

The driver bent down to pickup or look for something in her car and then the airbags deployed. My boss lost control and now 4 people died. So

  • mokheled - 2012-05-17 09:56

@Carolyne, I live in sea point high level road is the same. I fail to understand why the municipality cant put speed bumps of all dangerous roads to reduce driving speed, with us knowing the every day there is a maniac speeding. fixing the roads is better than our lives.
