3 killed in Free State collision

Johannesburg - Two adults and a four-year-old boy were killed, and 11 others were injured on Thursday when three cars collided on the N3 in the Free State near the Frankfort/Vrede off-ramp, paramedics said.

Netcare911 spokesperson Chris Botha said the three died on impact.

"Two people were critically injured, and seven sustained serious injuries, two people miraculously escaped with minor injuries and did not require treatment."

The injured were stabilised on the scene before being transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

A critically injured woman was airlifted to a hospital in Johannesburg, he said.

The cause of the accident was unclear.
