Johannesburg - An alleged three-man gang pleaded not guilty in the KwaZulu-Natal High Court on Monday to charges of murder and the theft of R9 000 stokvel money and other goods.

The three men are accused of the murder of a married couple as well as the theft of stokvel cash, a bakkie, pistol and cellphones.

Accused Vusimusi Ndlovu, 29, Mxolisi Ndlovu, 21 and Sibusiso Ngubane 25, of Wartburg in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, are charged with attacking Fano Mkhize and Nobuhle Ngubo while they were asleep.

The couple were shot dead when they awoke and tried to defend themselves.

During the robbery, the gang allegedly moved a safe containing various items including the cash, but it was too heavy to take from the house.

Along with the stokvel earnings, the three men also stole a pistol that was in the safe, as well as cellphones and a bakkie.

One of the men is also charged with unlawfully possessing a firearm.

The case continues.
