Cape Town - Three people are trapped under a passenger bus after the vehicle crashed on the Hex river pass near De Doorns East on Friday.

ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said the bus was carrying 80 people and that rescue services were in the process of rescuing three people still trapped under the wreckage.

“The scene is chaotic and additional resources have been dispatched, the remaining passengers have minor to moderate injuries,” she told News24.

Jackson said rescue services are currently "triaging" to decide which patients require the most urgent care.

Hospitals in the area have been readied to receive multiple patients.

The incident took place at 10:30 on Friday and the bus was the only vehicle involved.

ER24 has confirmed that 10 people have died.
