2013-02-06 20:23

Johannesburg - Firefighters in Cape Town dealt with 35 vegetation fires on Thursday, the city's fire and rescue services said.

"We have eight vegetation fires still burning," spokesperson Theo Layne said at 18:50.

"No damage to property and no injuries have been reported.

"The causes of vegetation fires are usually difficult to determine, but negligence often plays a role."

Layne said firefighters were actively still fighting three fires.

The areas affected included Atlantis, Eersterivier, Milnerton, Kuilsrivier, Melkbosstrand and Blackheath.
