Pretoria - Four men accused of murdering former Johannesburg cluster commander Major General Thirani Maswanganyi appeared in the Pretoria North Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Tshepo Mosai, 30, Roger Godfrey Moseki, 33, Ndaedzo Isaac Vele, 29, and Nditsheni Daniel Nefolovhodwe, 32, appeared under the close watch of several police tactical response officers.

Numerous reporters and photographers were in the packed courtroom.

The case was provisionally postponed to Friday.

Maswanganyi was found dead with his hands and feet tied in a field near Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria, on 17 June.

A police patrol found his Isuzu bakkie abandoned next to the R101. A police uniform and a police identification card were in the bakkie, which prompted a search.

Brigadier Neville Malila said the investigation was still at a sensitive stage.
