Johannesburg - Four men have been arrested in connection with the abduction and killing of a Welkom man earlier this month, Free State police said on Friday.

Captain Stephen Thakeng said the four men were linked to the killing of Tony Texeira, and were arrested on Thursday.

Texeira was abducted from his house by four armed men last Thursday.

The armed robbers forced their way into Texeira's house and stole jewellery, cellphones and cash.

They took Texeira at gunpoint, and drove away with him in his bakkie. His wife was unharmed.

Texeira was found dead on Wednesday in Saaiplaas, Virginia by a mine security guard.

Police said he had a gunshot wound to the head. His feet and hands had been tied. Police recovered some of the stolen goods.

A firearm believed to have been used in the robbery was also recovered.

The four men were to appear in the Welkom Magistrate's Court on Monday.
