Durban - Four men have been arrested and one is still at large after they allegedly robbed a Spar Supertrade store in Mbazwana in northern KwaZulu-Natal, police said on Tuesday.

The armed robbery, which resulted in a car chase with police, took place at around 09:15 on Monday, Captain Thulani Zwane said.

"It is alleged that all five suspects entered the store but two of them, dressed in Spar uniforms, entered the manager's office upstairs and robbed him of an undisclosed amount of cash before all of them fled in a vehicle."

Zwane said police were responding when they noticed a Mazda 323 in the Madonela area.

"The driver refused to stop when pulled over and sped away, but the vehicle overturned when he lost control."

Four of the men, aged between 30 and 40, were arrested and two handguns recovered. A fifth man was able to flee from the police.

They were expected to appear in the Ubombo Magistrate's Court on charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and armed robbery.
