Pretoria - Four men have been arrested in connection with an attempted bank robbery in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria.On Tuesday afternoon, police foiled a planned bank robbery after receiving a tip-off that a gang of 10 men wanted to rob an Absa bank at the Soshanguve Plaza shopping centre.Police spokesperson Constable Petunia Chabangu said the officers responded and were able to nab the four, while others managed to flee in two cars."Police scouted the area where the robbery was going to take place and saw the cars they had been tipped off about. They called for back up and managed to corner one of the cars," she said.The gang was travelling in four different cars - an Audi, Golf GTI, VW Polo and a BMW. The three men travelling in the black GTI were cornered at a Pick 'n Pay complex next to the shopping centre. They are aged 27, 34 and 35.A jamming device and reflector jackets were found inside the car."Police recovered a pistol hidden under the passenger seat. There were also 15 rounds of ammunition, as well as one magazine," she said.A 41-year-old was arrested about 2km away at a filling station.The four men would be charged with attempted bank robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle and the unlawful possession of an electronic jamming device. They would appear in the Soshanguve Magistrate's Court soon, Chabangu said.
