4 burn to death in Newcastle head-on crash

Durban – Four people burnt to death when the car they were travelling in collided head-on with another vehicle at the Newcastle industrial area on Tuesday morning, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said the BMW that the deceased were in burst into flames during the collision with a Ford Ranger at about 05:00.

"We can confirm a case of culpable homicide will be opened at Newcastle police station after two vehicles collided head-on at the Newcastle industrial area this morning (Tuesday). All four occupants in a BMW burnt to death," Zwane said.

The cause of the accident is still unknown and no arrests have been made, he said.

The driver of the other car was treated for injuries at the scene of the crash, paramedics said.
