4 charged over plot to 'execute' Zuma

2012-12-18 11:44

Bloemfontein - Four men were charged with treason on Tuesday over a suspected plot to bomb a conference of the ruling African National Congress (ANC) and execute President Jacob Zuma and other top government officials.

The four, named as Mark Trollip, John Martin Keevy, Johan Hendrick Prinsloo and Hein Boonzaaier, were brought into court in Bloemfontein surrounded by security guards armed with assault rifles.

State prosecutor Shaun Abrahams said the men wanted to establish an independent Boer nation and that they were planning an assault on the ANC national elective conference currently under way in the city.

The plan included a mortar bomb attack on marquees housing ANC delegates, before an assault targeting Zuma and Cabinet ministers as they had dinner, Abrahams told the court.

Zuma and others were to be shot "in execution style", he added.

The intention of the group, which had been trying to buy AK-47 assault rifles, was "directly aimed at eliminating the leadership of this country", Abrahams said.

Well said, SJ and by virtue of their actions the ANC seem determined to bury Mandela's dream of a rainbow nation. These are misguided individuals who, like Madiba, want to right the wrongs committed by idiotic politicians (are there any other types?). These young lions are going to find themselves up against young lions of opposing viewpoints and the fur will really fly. This is only a precursor of things to come. Yesterday they were not linked to the ANC conference today they are. Pathetic journalism

      tersia.louw.12 - 2012-12-18 12:00

Is it pathetic journalism or pathetic police information? Hard to tell...

      Billy - 2012-12-18 14:39

yeah sure i understand that nick, makes me think of that tom cruise movie, minority report you would think that someone masterminding such a plot, would have the brains not to leave the plans lying around? how dof must you be? although..., human stupidity has no bounds... im not condoning the actions or would be actions, i just find the lack of information and that the story has changed a few times, pretty suspicious. especially around the time of mangaung, knowing that the anc will stoop to any kinds of low to retain/gain support.

To all mediocres! Zuma is your President until 2019,repent or choke in hatred and bitterness for another seven years! With us life is a party, celebrating everyday! Success leads to more success while failure leads to more failure!

      oneconcernedude - 2012-12-19 09:09

@ Khunou...very true, your statement, that is! "while failure leads to more failure!" The failure of the cANCer in so many instances is totally indicative of exactly what you say. Well done, you hit the corrupt government "nail" right on the head there, mate! One thing I don't quite understand though..."To all mediocres! Zuma is your President until 2019"...why do you say all your cANCer party buddies are MEDIOCRE...?

  • scouter.fourone - 2012-12-18 11:51

Ummmmm - I think the term you are looking for is 'assasinate' and not 'execute'. There is a distinct difference .... the latter inmplies custody. How long before this report is repudiated? What an absolute joke....

      charles.maputla - 2012-12-18 12:07

Don't you want 2 say prosecute maybe? Execute and assassinate both result in someone dying whereas PROSECUTE result with someone being jailed or acquited.

      scouter.fourone - 2012-12-18 12:30

@Charles - clearly, my comment has flown right over your head.

      vracaza - 2012-12-18 15:36

Scouter: There is nothing wrong with the headline. "Zuma and others were to be shot "in execution style"". Is it perhaps that you dont know what it means when some1 gets shot in execution style? Its the planned way of killing him that made the headlines not killing him. If he was just going to be shot e.g. by a snipper or short at close range and some1 running away then the headline would read "Assisination", bt execution style is very specific way of killing some1. Either you tell them to kneel down and you shoot them on the head , or they stand up and you fire at them directly, thats execution, a specific form of shooting some1. Do you understand now?

      salee.sithwell - 2012-12-19 01:45

Indeed vracaza. The nice journalist has even put "execute" in inverted commas to make life easier for Scouter.

      oneconcernedude - 2012-12-19 09:14

Like a supersonic jet Scouter...like a supersonic JET! Amazing how obtuse one can be when one attempts an "acerbic or (stifled laughter) INTELLIGENT retort" As I say...over his head like a jet.....

      oneconcernedude - 2012-12-19 09:25

@ vracaza. Thank you for that "truly enlightening" explanation vracaza...According to your post here you purport to be both an "expert" in the English language and journalism, as well as in the fine art of "execution and assassination" Wow! A veritable "Bondlike" secret agent, are you? Impressive!

  • paul.nel1 - 2012-12-18 11:53

      JaredVN - 2012-12-18 12:17

As opposed to the stinking racism being perpetrated against whites every day like AA and BEE?

      jeremy002 - 2012-12-18 14:58

If all this is true, I am glad that they were stopped. The backlash would send the country spinning out of control and a lot more people dead. However, what I find interesting is that these right wing radicals always get caught. Are they just plain stupid, or do they have traitors in their midst? Why are they unable to carry something out? Do they ask one of their employees to help them load rifles into the bakkie, because they are on their way to the conference in Bloem? Do they make their plans within earshot of the house maid? Do they sit and brag about their plans over a few drinks at their local? Or is it that there is always someone amongst them that tips the police off. Interesting.

      rob.bayliss.94 - 2012-12-18 16:08

jeremy? maybe the entire event is being portrayed in such a way as to ridicule anyone who has the temerity to try to oppose the powers. Surely these guys cannot be a stupid as they are being made out to be?

      Tuyez - 2012-12-18 18:18

Jeremy if you believe that white are the only clever beings in this country. That means that there are clever whites who serve this country with loyalty and believe in justice. They are also anti racism. I think these stupid racist must go somewhere and I do not where and live where they wont see any blacks for the rest of their lives. But I do not know where is that cause blacks are now scattered all over the world.

      grant.callaway.50 - 2012-12-18 19:39

@Jeremy - the country IS out of control! From here on, one of two things will happen: 1) South Africa descends into ruin, and the population starves (Zim Style), or 2) War! That's not necessarily a racial war. The general population may EVENTUALLY realise the poo they've got themselves into and decide to vote out the ANC. Should that happen, just like in Zim, the ANC will still "win". The only way the ANC will leave is if they are overthrown... When their support dries up, they will resort to force and violence - they will not stand down. Mark my words.

      SarelJBotha - 2012-12-19 15:38

These type of things will not happen if the regime did not make law that made life difficult for all people. You need to always look for the real root of problems.

JZ should actually stop and take stock of SA as it is now. If he spent 10 minutes just reading the comments on forms like these, he'd get a rude awakening - but then what would he actually do about it ?? he'd form a committee, who would study the situation, after 3 years, they'd prepare a document that he'd 'study' - he'd then file the document away and smile and say to himself 'job well done' did these idiots honestly think the cANCer would allow anyone with bad intentions anywhere near their king ?

      monica.borrageiro - 2012-12-18 13:34

It is sad Faraimbx because it is a carbon copy of what happened in Zimbabwe. The only difference being that they had South Africa to flee to when their money became more worthless than toilet paper. I hope that all the people putting their blind trust in this pathetic excuse of a government can swim, because that's the only place they have left to flee to.

If indeed, they were to disrupt / kill the leadership of this country, the ANC, they should be dealt with harshly in the sense of the law. They show that, they are not in the spirit of building this country and they are interested in creating havoc amongst this nation. The law must take its course.

Absolutely the law must take its course and thus Zuma and all his cohorts should be first in line.

Have these idiots learnt anything by the history of Nelson Mandela, Eugene Terblanche and Hendrik Verwoerd? Violence begets violence and hatred begets hatred.
