4 die as bus swerves to avoid buck

2012-12-27 08:32

Bloemfontein - Four people were killed in a bus crash outside Bloemfontein early on Thursday morning.

"Fourteen other passengers including the bus driver, sustained various injuries and they were all treated on scene and transported to either Pelonimi Hospital or Mediclinic Bloemfontein for further care," said ER24 medics spokesperson Vanessa Jackson.

She said a representative from the bus company arrived at the scene and collected the passengers' luggage to return to them once they left hospital.

The accident followed the driver's swerving to avoid a buck in the road, ER24 added.

The vehicle had been travelling from the Eastern Cape to Johannesburg.

If we venture to the ocean, shark kills us then we must stop avoiding to kill these bucks as we can eat them as well.

Best thing to do is never swerve out. Continue in a straight line, but brake as much as possible. Reduces speed and impact damage. Hope all readers learn from this.

Busses are now more dangerous than SA taxis. It was observed that these 'luxury" busses are travelling/speeding over the 120 ltd, not to mention the 100 km/ph max speed for them. Was the 'buck' a Kudu or maybe a "duiker"? Wonder if the bus driver was not "dreaming" while driving....
