King William’s Town – A head-on collision involving two cars left four people dead on Friday morning near King William’s Town in the Eastern Cape.

Three men and a woman from one of the vehicles died, while two other people were critically injured and rushed to Butterworth Hospital.

According to South African Police Service spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha, it is believed that the vehicle carrying the deceased was travelling from Dutywa and crashed into another car travelling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the vehicle travelling from Dutywa was among the dead, while the driver of the other vehicle sustained only minor injuries.

"The cause of the accident is not known at this point in time, but Dutywa police are investigating a case of culpable homicide," Manatha said in a statement.

Manatha added that the identities of the deceased could not yet be established.
