Johannesburg - Four people have been killed and 30 others injured after a bus crashed into an embankment on the N1 outside of Louis Trichardt in Limpopo on Wednesday morning.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said their paramedics, along with various emergency services, arrived on the scene and found the bus parked on the side of the road, about 20km outside the town. Debris from the bus was spread across the scene.

On assessment, paramedics determined four passengers had died on the scene, with one of the bodies still trapped underneath the bus.

Another 30 passengers were found on the scene with injuries ranging from minor to critical. "Paramedics treated the patients and provided some with advanced life support intervention," Meiring said.

"A medical helicopter was also called to the scene to assist in the treatment and transportation of some of the patients. Once treated, all the patients were transported to various hospitals in the area for urgent treatment."

The cause of the collision was not yet known, but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
