Pietermaritzburg - Four people were killed in an accident involving two cars and a truck on the N3 at Van Reenen's Pass on Monday, the KwaZulu-Natal community safety department said.

The driver of a Toyota Corolla apparently lost control of the car, side-swiped a Volvo, and crashed head-on into a truck, spokesperson Kwanele Ncalane said.

The four died on the scene.

Community safety MEC Willies Mchunu said he was concerned about the high number of fatal road accidents in the province recently.

"This is indeed a cause for concern, but it will not deter our efforts of rooting out all transgressions on our roads."
