Johannesburg - Four people were killed and 32 injured when a bus and a truck collided on the N1 near Laingsburg on Thursday, the Western Cape transport department said.

The Eldo Coaches bus was allegedly travelling on the wrong side of the road when it collided head-on with the truck around 02:00, Transport MEC Donald Grant said in a statement.

"Early indications suggest that fatigue may have played a role in this horrific crash... The N1 was reopened at 10:00 this morning after the crash had been cleared."

The injured, including both drivers, were taken to a nearby hospital.

"I should like to extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those that have lost their lives, and wish the injured a speedy recovery."

With the Easter holidays coming up, Grant said the department would ensure better safety on the roads.

Ja keep roads safe by ensuring no more Selling of learners and drivers licences take place . Stop bothering with Speed law enforcement when conditions are favourable in day light but not at night or during rain
