Durban - Four people were killed and two others injured after a car crashed into another vehicle in Carletonville on Wednesday morning.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said emergency services found both cars on the side of the road on the R501 near the Deelkraal and Welverdiend Road intersection.

"Several bodies were found lying outside the two vehicles while two [people] were found walking around on the scene."

Meiring said paramedics found that three men, lying outside their vehicles, had sustained numerous injuries.

"Unfortunately, nothing could be done for the patients and they were declared dead on the scene."

He said a woman was found lying outside her vehicle just a few metres away from one of those killed.

"She was transported to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment. Unfortunately, upon arrival at hospital, the woman succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead."

Meiring said the two remaining patients, a man and woman, were assessed and found to have sustained moderate injuries.

"They were treated for their injuries and thereafter transported to Leratong Hospital for further treatment."
