Johannesburg - Four Malawians were arrested after being found in possession of a stolen cargo of shoes and mag wheels worth thousands, Ekurhuleni metro police said on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, 20 mag wheels worth R40 000 were recovered from a truck that had been hijacked in Alberton the previous day, Lieutenant Colonel Wilfred Kgasago said.

Also on Tuesday, EMPD Equestrian Unit members received a call about a second truck parked on the side of the R50 in Bromberg. That truck had been reported stolen at Brighton Beach in KwaZulu-Natal.

When officers raided the yard of a nearby premises in Bapsfontein, they found the truck's cargo of 816 pairs of shoes worth R170 000, and arrested the Malawians - three men and a woman.

Police confiscated R14 000 cash from the group. They would appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon.
