Johannesburg - Four motorists missed their flights after being caught for speeding, Ekurhuleni Metro Police said on Sunday.

Lieutenant Kobeli Mokheseng said the four speedsters were nabbed on the Albertina Sisulu Highway (R24) near the Barbara Road off-ramp between 05:00 and 11:00.

"Amongst the four, a 53-year old man driving a white VW Golf was caught doing 168km/h at 08:22, before he explained that he was late for a flight.

“The rest of offenders, who were also rushing to the OR Tambo International Airport, clocked between 161km/h and 165km/h.

"All lawbreakers were detained and charged with reckless and negligent driving at the Edenvale police station,” said Mokheseng.

Suspects will appear at the Edenvale Magistrate’s Court soon.
