"He was rescued by the members of his family who rushed him to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. A case of murder was registered at the KwaMashu police station for investigation," police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said.

"Police have once again [warned] members of the community not to take the law into their own hands and to allow the justice system to take its course," Zwane said.

Unlicensed pistol, heroin

In a separate matter, a 29-year-old man appeared in the Ntuzuma Magistrate's Court on Monday for the alleged possession of an unlicensed firearm and drugs.

Zwane said KwaMashu police had received information that the man was in possession of an unlicensed pistol.

"Police pounced on the suspect at Siyanda area, where he was found with a pistol as well as heroin in his possession. The serial number on the firearm was filed off," he added.
