Polokwane - Four Limpopo men have received hefty sentences, thereby effectively removing them from society, police said in a statement.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said the sentences were passed by courts sitting in Sekgosese and Ritavi.

He catalogued the offences which resulted in their successful convictions.

- Ngwako Makwela, 25, from Khoopo village near Tzaneen, was sentenced to 40 years imprisonment for four cases of rape, four years for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, four years for kidnapping and 15 years for murder.

“He kidnapped and raped four teenage victims between 2011 and 2012 in the Maake Policing area. He also fatally stabbed Ethiopian businessman Yossef Yohannes Ararsso near Khoopo village during an armed robbery in 2011,” he said.

- Mbazima Mawele, 41, from Wisani Village outside Tzaneen was given two life sentences for raping two young girls aged 12 and 13 respectively in 2011 inside his house.

- Patrick Masete, 25, from Maake was handed four life sentences for rape and 30 years imprisonment for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and robbery.

“In December 2011 he found three women and a man whose vehicle had broken down along the street in Dan Village. He attacked them, robbed them, kidnapped a woman and raped her repeatedly during the night.”

- Kenny Malatjie, 20, from Mokgolobotho Village was given a 15 year-sentence for raping a 27-year-old mentally ill woman in 2012. He had met her and dragged her into the bushes before raping her,” Ngoepe said.
