41 properties listed as part of seven national parks

Johannesburg - A total of 41 properties have been declared part of seven national parks, together spanning more than 41 850 hectares.

This follows the Department of Environmental Affairs declaration of land to be part of national parks around the country published in the Government Gazette on Friday.

Five properties, totalling 2 232.7 hectares, were listed as part of the West Coast National Park in the Western Cape, while the Marakele National Park in Limpopo listed two properties totalling 908.8 hectares.

The Mountain Zebra National Park in the Eastern Cape listed 12 properties totalling 11 778 hectares.

As part of the Tankwa Karoo National Park, near the border of the Northern Cape and Western Cape, four properties were listed totalling 4 047.9 hectares.

One 7 928.1 hectare property was listed as part of the Richtersveld National Park straddling the South Africa-Namibia border, while seven properties were listed as part of the Table Mountain National Park totalling 342.5 hectares.

Ten properties were listed as part of the Namaqua National Park in the Northern Cape making up 14.6 hectares. The tenth property was the admiralty zone area between the Groen and Spoeg Rivers for which no hectares were given.
