5 appear for Free State killing

Johannesburg - Five men accused of abducting and killing a businessman appeared in the Welkom Magistrate's Court on Monday, said Free State police.

Police spokesperson Stephen Thakeng said the case was postponed until 5 April for bail applications.

Pieter Vorster, Mahlomola Dhladhla, Tsietsi Mara, Mosoatsi Tsemane and Amelia Makoko are accused of killing businessman Tony Texeira.

Texeira's body was found on the side of the road in Saaiplass, Virginia, by a mine security guard.

He had been shot in the head and his hands and feet had been tied.

Four men had forced their way into Texeira's house, where they had stolen jewellery, cellphones and cash.

They took Texeira at gunpoint, and drove away with him in his bakkie.

His wife was unharmed.

A sixth arrested in connection with the murder would appear in the same court on Tuesday, said Thakeng.

He said the police were searching for a seventh man thought to be linked to the crime.
