Johannesburg - Five men were arrested on Saturday morning after a man was shot dead in Zondi, Soweto, Gauteng police said.

Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said the men were arrested in connection with the shooting of a 33-year-old man on Thursday night.

"Police followed up on information and found the man's car in Emdeni. The car was already stripped and the owner of the house was arrested. He then showed the police who brought the car to the house," he said.

"Another man was arrested and he showed the police the boys who shot the man and all three were arrested."

Makhubela said the arrested men are aged between 25 and 47 and were expected to appear in court soon on charges of murder, house robbery, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

On Thursday night, three men broke into a house and demanded keys to a rented car and a safe.

They shot the man twice.
