Durban - Five men are expected to appear in the Hluhluwe Magistrate's Court on Tuesday for alleged arson and murder, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Monday.

On Saturday night, just before 00:00, the men allegedly attacked a homestead believed to be that of the Mdletshe family in the Madulini area in Hluhluwe, northern KwaZulu-Natal.

Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane said three rondavels were set alight and Nyanyekile Gumede, 61, and Sifiso Nkosi, were severely assaulted and burnt to death in their rondavels.

Three other people were caught in the fire, but they managed to escape and flee into nearby bushes.

Zwane said all the suspects were neighbours of the victims and the motive for the attack was suspected to have been revenge.
