Bloemfontein – Five men have been handed long jail sentences for the murder and attempted murder of two teenage boys, Free State police said on Tuesday.

The High Court sitting in Virginia convicted William Sithole, Joseph Mazibuko, Letsie May, Amos Thakamakoa and Thabi Mashiya of killing a teenage boy and assaulting another in Allanridge on October 11, 2015, said police spokesperson Stephen Thakeng.

The five are all in their 20s.

The boys, aged 16, were allegedly gang members, said Thakeng.

One of the teenage boys was stabbed multiple times. He died in Pelonomi Hospital in Bloemfontein.

The other teen was stabbed severely, but survived the incident, said Thakeng.

Sithole and Mashiya were jailed for an effective 20 years for murder, and 10 years for attempted murder, said Thakeng.

Mazibuko was jailed for 18 years for murder, and 16 years for two attempted murders.

May was given 20 years for murder and 20 years for two attempted murder, while Thakamakhoa was given 15 years for murder and eight years for attempted murder, Thakeng said.
