Johannesburg - Five men were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the murder of a woman whose burnt body was found in her house near Mthatha, Eastern Cape police said.

Community members caught the men in Nqeleni and handed them over to police in the morning, spokesperson Mzukisi Fatyela said.

The body of the 48-year-old woman was found on November 7 in the same area.

Post mortem results revealed that the woman died of stab wounds, Fatyela said. She was living alone and running a small shop in her yard.

"The woman was also robbed of R13 000 cash during the attack," he said.

The men, aged between 21 and 35, were expected to face murder and arson charges in the Nqeleni Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
