53 injured after bus, truck collide near Ladysmith

Pietermaritzburg - Fifty-three people were injured in a collision on the N3, near Ladysmith, between a bus and a truck early on Wednesday morning.

Paramedics and provincial service officers arrived on the scene and found both vehicles parked in the slow lane, according to ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.

Two people were in a critical condition.

All injured persons were transferred to surrounding hospitals including Ladysmith hospital.

It is believed the the bus driver failed to notice that the truck was slowing down and consequently hit the truck from behind, said Meiring.

As the festive season approaches Meiring noted that ER24 has placed a number of vehicles in “hot spot” areas where accidents are prevalent.
