Mahikeng - North West police were searching on Friday for six prisoners who escaped from the Morokweng police station earlier in the week.

A seventh escapee, John Jood, was re-arrested on Thursday in Motsoseng village in Mahikeng, said Captain Tselane Nkala.

Jood escaped while being held on charges of attempted murder, car hijacking and robbery.

Nkala said the other prisoners were Refilwe Bareki, 22, Panaso Nuro, 18, Napoleon Lepodisi, 25, Tebogo Mothupi, 30, Bassy Mokobadi, 22, and Godfrey Moncho, 28.

They had been detained on charges including rape, assault and robbery.

Nkala said the men escaped at 20:00 on Monday by cutting through the cell door.

"The police were alerted by a detainee who was in the cell with them when they escaped," she said.

How do they "cut through a cell door"? Did they have a grinder with them? Smells ratty to me! These are nasty characters, I sincerely hope they are recaptured soon.

In this country, the criminals are handed guns on the way out of jail. shocking!

Sharon: you took the words out of my mouth! There is NO way 6 people escape without assistance from the "outside". Quiet frankly the police that were in duty should be arressted too! You dont break a cell door quietly!!!

Where do they received the cutter? Police are giving the prisoners free bail by letting them to escape. Like judges or Prosecutors, like policemen.
