Durban – At least three people have been shot dead and three injured in a shoot-out at the Brook Street taxi rank behind the old railway station in Durban.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said on Wednesday police were investigating the shooting.

"Netcare 911 paramedics and the provincial ambulance services arrived at the scene and was faced with carnage," said Botha.

The three injured persons were hospitalised.

Netcare 911 initially said that six people had been shot dead, but police at the scene later said the death toll was three.

A News24 reporter is on her way to the scene.
