6 die after traffic post fitness test

2012-12-29 17:40

Johannesburg - Six people have died from suspected dehydration after taking part in a KwaZulu-Natal traffic department recruitment fitness test, SABC news reported on Saturday.

Another person apparently committed suicide in frustration after the test, the news station reported.

Provincial Transport, Community Safety and Liaison MEC Willies Mchunu could not be reached for comment about the deaths.

However, in a statement on Saturday he said he would investigate the incident whereby "scores" of people who were trying to get a job at the road traffic inspectorate, collapsed during a fitness test.

"More than 34 000 applicants qualified for the 90 trainee posts which were advertised," said Mchunu in a statement.

He said that 15 600 applicants attended a fitness test at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Thursday, and a similar number attended on Friday.

"Scores of them could not cope with the hot weather conditions and collapsed."

Many were taken to hospital.

Mchunu said that he would meet with those in charge of the test on Saturday.

"We regret any injuries or loss of lives as a result of the fitness test," he said.

This is so sad people are so desperate for work

      david.banner.104418 - 2012-12-29 18:42

Metro police actually work? I think they applied because it's such a cushy job, and gives such a power trip to be a metro cop. Amazing that they know how to organise parties, but not a simple fitness test. Those people that died must have been seriously unfit.

      squeegee.pilot - 2012-12-29 18:52

Are these people (traffic dept)out of their minds? Charge the whole lot including the imbecile that made this pathetic statement...

      hein.huyser - 2012-12-29 19:28

Just wondering if a streetsweeper job with the same sallary would've attracted the same ammount of applicants? Or is it the position with the perceived "power" that made all this people applying? Maybe therd are so many people out there that are tired of the Metros not doing what they are supposed to and these people felt that they will be the ones to clean it all up? Who knows what Africa think at times. All I know this is an indictment against the anc and it speaks of a vote of no confidance in the anc

Themba is very ill informed and brainwashed by cANCer propaganda.

      themba.thwala.775 - 2012-12-29 21:05

David.banner, how so? You don't believe that the apartheid government was defeated? You are either high, or you live in Orania. Which is it :)

      ancbasher - 2012-12-30 05:32

Wena Themba, the Apartheid System and the Bush War are two separate issues. The SADF won the war, what the politicians did afterwards is a different story. Go and do your research.

      themba.thwala.775 - 2012-12-30 07:29

ANCBasher, I have all the history in my head because I was there. There was never any winner my broer. But pressure (internatonal sanctions, the state of ungovernability of the country in the townships, increased isolation of the apartheid state, etc) was being mounted on the apartheid state, such that it ended up capitulating to negotiations and finally lost power at the polls on April 27, 1994. Why would your government agree to hand over power when its footsoldiers, its defenders, were winning the war? You go back and read your history neh :)

      themba.thwala.775 - 2012-12-30 08:43

ANCBasher, I would have preferred a debate, but I guess 'not likes/thumbsdown' from your speechless supporters will do for now :)

      derek.francois.3 - 2012-12-30 10:10

This is ridiculous, the bar must have been set very low 34000!!!!!!!, why not reduce the numbers to the top 1000 then test the fitness of the candidates. The ANC led government just does not have a clue, unemployment is a huge issue and will lead to revolution eventually while the fat cats dream up ways to stay in power............youth grants. child grants just call them by what they are VOTER GRANTS.............................

      rob.bancroft.94 - 2012-12-30 10:43

temba, you were there! What were you doing, hiding or running away as fast as you can? Even the cubans had no respect for you guys. You were a useless bunch. The cubans were in Angola for 13 years. Why? Because they could not defeat unita who were backed by SADF. You are living in your own dream of self deception. Live on, why should we care, because every else knows the truth and it is not what you believe. So what is there to debate? You can't debate facts. Anyway, what has this got to do with the above story, idiot!

      themba.thwala.775 - 2012-12-30 11:47

Tuner/robber-bankrot, or whatever your name, I see you are one of these clowns who make up stuff as they go along to suit your limping argument. Did you see me "running"? No! For your information, I read about what was going on, analysed it, and came to my own well-researched conclusions! Did you speak to the Cubans? No! Neither could the SANDF and Unita defeat the MPLA and the Cubans. What does my post have to do with the article? Go and ask news24 editors why they chose to delete the posts that preceded my responses. I also wish to ask what does the vomit you just wrote have to do with the article too? And remember to get back inside your trailer idiot. Next idiot!

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-12-30 12:02

Themna thwala.775. You were there, so was I. What has all this go to do with people so desperate for work dying during a fitness session?. Shame on you.

      themba.thwala.775 - 2012-12-30 12:15

, Firstly, I am Themba. How would you feel if I called you something you are not, like Jerk? Secondly, read my response to tuner/robber bankrot (I assume rob is short for robber). There were former apartheid footsoldiers who started gloating about how fit they were as SADF soldiers compared to those who died, making a mocekery of the dead black people. I responded to them, and there was a long email trail since yesterday with their responses too. News24 editors has evidently deleted those former apartheid footsoldiers' stupid comments, but in their infinite wisdom, chose to leave mine. Shame on you too for ignorantly and blindly jumping on the bandwagon

      peter.fraser.92754 - 2012-12-30 12:33

Dearest themba.thwala......NO,the apartheid Government was NOT defeated. It was a negotiated settlement.I firmly believe the settlement was resonable for EVERYBODY. If the Apartheid regime AND THE ANC did not come to their senses and started negotiations, we would have had a full scale war. With an excellent trained army and the best weaponry available to the Apartheid regime...who know what the outcome would have been??? BUT, that is in the past...why can we not tolerate each others opinion instead of being foulmouthed about it.Have a peaceful 2013.

They should be charged with murder or at least manslaughter...

  • koketso.senabe - 2012-12-29 18:12

That's what medical tests are there for, some people can't handle strenuous these exercises especially those with lung or breathing problems. It's really sad that people in this country have to go through such things just to secure a job, May Their Souls Rest In Peace.

      lee.brand.73 - 2012-12-29 18:30

You are confused. A medical test is generally where they hook you to an ecg and make you walk on a treadmill. They monitor your heart. If its not good they stop the test. You fail but you live. A fitness test they tell you to run 2.4 km in a certain time. If it's very hot and you have health problems you die.

      enlightened.bowman - 2012-12-29 18:45

listen dude, Thats like a paraplegic applying for duty in the recces.

      patsy.smith.125 - 2012-12-31 15:55

Surely a test for mental ability would have been more appropriate. Even a test, like a polygraph, to check the honesty of the applicants. Why such a rigorous physical endurance test? I've never see a traffic policeman running anywhere - have you? Those people who applied for the jobs were probably undernourished to start off with, and totally lacking any stamina. Maybe they should try the same trials for all our overfed MPs....

      andrew.selous - 2012-12-31 22:07

  • Kombisa - 2012-12-29 18:14

I just wonder what led to this glaring negligence and to a certain degree dereliction of ones duties. How on earth were people who were not first observed whether they are both physically and mentally ready put under these extreme conditions. Secondly it is reported that there were no refreshments in extremely hot conditions, what were the authorities thinking. I further wonder if emergency health services were arranged to be on site. How do you sort list so many just for 90 post, at leave 5000 maximum. What now?

      ronald.stilianou - 2012-12-30 11:37

Themba, no, it is not any bones or ancestors or any other BS you believe in but the ability to read some of your posts and detracting from that that you are just another brainless sheep that goes through your insignificant little life fighting tooth and nail for a political party that is robbing its people. Have you sent some of your posts to the children of the affected families?....didn't think so, YOU are a coward. Please tell us why do you need the constant attention from the other commenters with your warped view on anything that points out the incompetence of the ANC? Is this the highlight of your existence?, to get people to hate and insult you?, are you some kind of pervert? Do you derive some sort of sexual gratification from being emotionally abused by the responses on some of your posts?....there's a word for that, it is masochism.

      ronald.stilianou - 2012-12-30 18:08

WTF news24!!! Am I cutting too close to the ANC bone? Why do you delete my posts?, it's very strange that when discussions about religion goes on then no posts mysteriously disappears, but if someone writes something that n24 moderator don't agree with because it puts the ANC in a bad light, then it gets deleted. This is for you moderator: We know you are a ANC card holder, but that does not give you the right to deny the opposition party supporters their voice. Don't call this News24, call it ANC24, at least we will know what we're in for.

      themba.thwala.775 - 2012-12-30 18:28

R-sole, stop using "we" and trying to get sympathy for your stupidity. "We know you are a ANC card holder" Bwahahahahaha! And now that is classic. Who is "we"? Wait, it must be you, the flees on your racist dogs, and your dogs? Wahahahahahaha! Interestingly, ANC sheep on the other hand say the media is white!! The ANC also believes this sh***t and has even passed unconstitutinal legislation to stifle media freedom. I'm sure they will be pleasantly surpised to see that some rightwhinger is on their side. Lol, loller, lollest! Now that you have started hallucinating, I think we are getting very close to exorcising you of the racism bile you grew up on, much closer than I imagined actually

      ronald.stilianou - 2012-12-30 18:36

Ok, I will try to rewrite my continuation: You have perceived me as someone that needs some sort of exorcism/ Hokus pokus crap because you decided that I am an apartheid soldier and hater of black people. Now, please show me where I've given you that idea?, please, you are welcome to search every and anywhere. You are even welcome to ask my parents as to the way they brought me up, I actually dare you to find anything on me to prove that I'm a racist.I do not associate myself with any bore mag brandy and coke, or any right wing organization. I can tell you that I've never belonged to a terrorist organization, can you?. In your little mind, if I hate the ANC ( which is mostly black) does that make me a racist?..... I'm doing it again, I'm going too fast for you, so what I suggest is: I'll ask a question or two, give a statement (not in that specific order) and then answer a question or a statement that you've made. Then I'll press send. Maybe if we do it this way you will be able to keep up, because I'm starting to repeat myself on certain issues and it is quite clear that you can't follow. He'll, I'm still waiting for some of your pearls of infinite wisdom from my earlier posts. Just a last thing, not that it bothers me but you really make yourself look dumb and stupid if you throw little insults and name calling around. Use it, don't use it, really, I don't mind, just trying to help.

      themba.thwala.775 - 2012-12-30 19:37

OK, you seem to be too close to tears now. I feel bad. Let's start afresh. We have both thrown insults, and I would ask you to resist the temptation to do so again. I undertake not to throw any too. You claim to have asked questions, and that you are still waiting for answers from me. Can you ask those questions again, and let me answer? Can you also avoid making statements and just stick to questions as that will also tempt to me to make counter-statements?

      ronald.stilianou - 2012-12-30 19:57

Ag shame themie, you've now demoted yourself from a far below average debater to a grammar expert (sic). Have I tapped everything out of you? , nothing left but childish little one liners to give your ego some much needed CPR. I can go on for ever, there's more than enough ammo wrt the poorly run state of this country and no one, especially not a one track mind bigot like you, can make me change my opinion of the powers in charge. It was fun at some point but now you're just boring me, if I can make a suggestion, maybe you should start this new year by trying to read at least a book a month (NO pictures). It will broaden your perspective and you might be able to learn to retain what you read, because, as I've pointed out, you seem to forget what you read and that hinders the natural flow of any discussion. Maybe try to join a club of some sort, or read out loud to your cat or chicken or whatever you deem as an acceptable audience. If you take anything away from this it should be: Accept that you are black and love yourself, don't be angry at white people because they are white and do unto others as you want others to do unto you. And finally: Stop being a racist.

      themba.thwala.775 - 2012-12-30 20:27

themba.thwala.775 - Just posted Report commentComments Policy I see you are back at insults again. Where did I even try to change your mind about the ANC? You are more stupid than I gave you credit for. YOu must be high on drugs to always come up with stuff and attribute it to me. I always have a book on my bedside table to read. Just admit it, you have no questions to ask, now that I have challenged you to ask them. Do unto others: That's exactly what I have been to you. Giving you back as much as you have been giving. Ronald Stilianou, I am sure your friends who read the vomit you have been typing the whole day will be so embarrassed. So take here is my free advice to you: grow a brain, supermoron.

      themba.thwala.775 - 2012-12-30 20:41

Ronald, you bumhole, I thought I should let you know that if you don't see me responding, that's not because you have won. I have spent most of today trying to help exorcize the racism demons out of you. But we still have tomorrow. I am now taking a break to be with my family in the living room. Note though, I am not going to allow you to have the final say on this. Just remember that.

      ronald.stilianou - 2012-12-31 00:34

Themba, my apologies for the last spout of insults, I was typing the response to your previous collection of seemingly helpful suggestions and posted without refreshing the page, my bad. But, yes, I agree, let's both grow up and engage this situation like gentlemen. I also regret keeping you away from your family for the day, and for no positive results on your side (exorcizing me and that), but allow me to give you a tip in that regard. Invest in an iPad. I had a lovely day at the poolside with the fam and kept myself up to date with the progression of our " discussion" while tending to the attention needs of the wife, kids and dogs. Lets get to business: First of all, I deeply regret my comment about you people raping your young. It was uncalled for and I had no right to say a horrible thing like that, I can give the excuse that I needed to make you bleed because of your generalization of me being a right wing extremist but even that does not give me the right to place you in that generalization bracket. I apologize to you and everyone that I insulted with that remark. Now lets talk about context. If I engage someone in a heated debate and some pertinent statements is made by me in a posted comment, then it is not fair for me to remove my post after the other party had responded to the issues described in the post. That throws the communication pattern out of sink and responses to the deleted post might not make much sense. I know it is your prerogative to remove (continue)

      ronald.stilianou - 2012-12-31 01:03

Cont. But it vilifies the other person. Think of it as fighting with a horseshoe in your boxing glove. The question that I initially wanted to know from you was...why are you defending the corrupt system that was displayed with regard to how this fitness test was conducted? ( your defense was in the deleted post) It was never a race issue with me, but always an incompetent ANC issue. You see, the traffic department is a government entity, the government is ANC, therefore the ANC is to blame. We live in Africa, the sun is much more potent today as it was 20 years ago because of global warming etc. it's a definite consideration to be taken into account when attempting an exercise of this magnitude. As I mentioned, someone somewhere is arranging funeral(s)for a Loved one that left home in the morning, with great expectation and hope and clearly a fatal fear of failure. I'm not punting the DA, but if the ANC just try to adopt some of the job-creation solutions that was presented by Hellen, then the scarcity of jobs could have been addressed in some way or form. You've got to agree, 34000 applicants for 90positions is a fundamental failure on the part of the government. Another question that I would like to ask is: (referring to 11:37) is it really necessary for you to engage the right wingers and trolls in order for you to defend your race? There is nothing that anyone can say to right wingers that will change their mindset, and to try just give them acknowledgement ( cont.)

      ronald.stilianou - 2012-12-31 01:12

Cont. Of the crap that they are trying to sell. In other words, you are feeding the monster. And trolls, well nothing much to say about them accept that they are sad individuals that do not possess the intelligence to debate. So, let me leave it at that for now, go well.

      themba.thwala.775 - 2012-12-31 07:24

Nu, My, thank for the advice. I have been cleaning my pool in between, and the only ipad I have is for work purposes. But I'll consider investing in a personal one. I can assure you, I don't delete my post, except with immediate effect very shortly after posting if I identify a spelling error, which may be used against me. I also tend to be very playful at times and joke around, which offends some people. I know that some will hate it, while others will take it in the spirit intended. All the same, I laugh about it, and am often giggling at others' comments of a similar nature. Apology accepted. I ask for your apology too for the part I played too.

      themba.thwala.775 - 2012-12-31 07:34

Regarding your first question, I have and could never defend the manner in which the training was conducted. If you read the entire comment section, you would have seen my other comments in which I condemned the failure to shortlist "a reasonable number of at least up to 100" suitable canditates. My debate, which you later joined, was with former SANDF soldiers who compared their training to the weakness of those who died. In my view, they were very crude and callous, and displayed elements of disregard for black lives and racism. I never sit back thereby condoning such comments. I think you misunderstood me. If I wrote in terms which gave the impression that I was defending as suggested by you, I can assure that was not my intention, and hereby apologies for writing in the manner described, if indeed my wording was capable of being interpreted as you obviously did ... (continued below)

      themba.thwala.775 - 2012-12-31 07:42

About whether it is necessary to engage rightwingers, I believe I have the right to defence my race from mostly general falsehoods. Most of the hatred is based on misinformation and unnecessary stereotypes. At any rate, if I allow rightwingers to have a field day, I see myself as condoning their behavior. Believe it or not, I have made friends with guys who used to be rightwingers right. Unfortunately I cannot mention names. But over time, as I kept challenging their views, I am glad that most, in fact 99 percent of those who held on to their views eventually accepted that they were incorrect, in their own way. In other cases, people who are probably not racists, have posted racist comments which to them appear neutral, but for someone that was at the receiving end of racism, the impact is felt. I would challenge such comments, regardless of whether the person who posted is black or white, and eventually the people involved started taking those types of sensitivities into account. I see that as my role here. Some people have vrey strongly castigated me for it. But hey, I think it comes with the territory. I was a political activist from around age 14. I'm in my early 40s, and am continuing my political activism everywhere I find an opportunity, even around colleagues wherever a political discussion raises its ugly head(continued ...)

      themba.thwala.775 - 2012-12-31 07:46

There are times when I am really crude, and that's because the comment would have been very crude as well. That is my way of dealing with insensitive, crude comments, giving back as good I, as a reader who would have felt adversely impacted by such comments, receive. To some this may be offensive. Again, it comes with the territory. I'll leave this here for now. Happy New Year's Eve nu_un_clear

We drove past one of the venues in PMB today, there were cars everywhere. Today's weather in PMB was predicted at 35, but I suspect it was more like 40. They would have known the weather conditions in advance and should have made arrangements. Also there should have been some prescreening such that the volume could have been reduced from the estimated 34000 applicants. And to those people making crude comments of how unfit the applicants may have been, you try and running one lap in 40 degrees blazing sun after you been standing for several hours.

  • abdul.cassiem.9 - 2012-12-29 18:48

I sincerely hope this is misinformation because if this is true this government an aurthorities are beyond repair. The future am afraid is very bleak.

  • carolyn.dewrance - 2012-12-29 18:49

I guess the fat cats that were in control of the testing, sat back on their fat backsides drinking coke and laughing at the chaos they had caused. Well I hope they face the wrath of all hell from the families that lost loved ones, in their race to try and get a job.

  • warren.mark.92 - 2012-12-29 18:49

Some1 needs to be held accountable, make people run for a job?what a joke

  • Mike Peach Purchase - 2012-12-29 18:50

You have a point there lee but also to take bribes and sit in a car all day.

      lee.brand.73 - 2012-12-29 19:01

Mike, I also dislike cops, but these okes were just ordinary men looking for a job. They died trying to get a job. I have a huge amount of respect for them and I think that their families should be very proud of them. As for the cops who killed them, ja, it's been said already.

  • metja.monare - 2012-12-29 18:53

Sad story indeed, but why physical tests 'cause after they qualified they would be like the most of the traffic officers: big bellies and big bums-fat

  • Bafana Joseph - 2012-12-29 18:56

usesless department must compensate the innocent applicants

      hein.huyser - 2012-12-29 19:45

Bafana. If the "department" gets sued the taxpayer picks up this bill, resulting in even less money in the pot for a few Nkandlas and the poor. Nope, the people responsible must be, in their personal capacity, be brought before the courts. That will immediately prevent a future balls-up like this. It is because cops ans metros know they do not get sued they act in these ways, without regard for the consequances or the outcomes. Lack of accountabiliy from top to bottom is the rezl problem here

  • Mike Peach Purchase - 2012-12-29 18:56

Its a disgrace to say the least.

  • Mike Peach Purchase - 2012-12-29 18:58

Abdul unfortunately what you say is true we are all in serious poo but what we going to do about it???

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-12-30 12:11

Mike Peach Purchase. What are we going to do about it? Bugger all. We aren't in the ANC league.

      themba.thwala.775 - 2012-12-30 12:27

Jacqui, but you happily received an award from them - the "ANC league"

  • Daniel Mah - 2012-12-29 19:01

    fitness test - really

  • enlightened.bowman - 2012-12-29 19:03

sorry people. Whats going on here? The foreign legion takes men from 18 to 40 years of age. The acceptance tests are done in Aubagne whether it be 40 or -5 degrees. Today only around 7 % make the grade but it has been many years since anyone died during those tests. If you even remotely look like you won't cope, you wont even get started. Believe me. With respect but particularly for police and army duty, the dates for asessment are set, that's it. These are jobs that need a lot of time spent in the open under all kinds of conditions. If you can not handle the prelims, then you should be the best judge of that. That the instuctors should have been trained to spot these problems, absolutely but that's where it ends. Just don't understand this misplaced sympathy mentality when it comes to that kind of work. It's your choice to try.

      lee.brand.73 - 2012-12-29 19:20

There is one thing you have overlooked. Desperation. Many of us have been through various selection processes - most of the motivation comes from your mates and from behind in various forms. Try to picture something similar where your only motivation is food for your family. They ran themselves to death. Pause before you judge them or you too maybe judged unfairly one day.

      goldwright - 2012-12-29 19:24

Hear what you are saying, but really, it's not like qualified traffic cops actually run 4kms in scorching heat, they will be sitting in their cars, driving around, with the air con on, or under some tree, fining speedsters with their gadgets. I got stopped a few weeks ago for a spot lisence check, and the traffic cop was a really obese guy - he would have collapsed I'm sure after running a few metres..... The SA traffic dept is a far cry from the foreingn legion. I live in Maritzburg, and it has been very hot and humid - I would have never attempted to run in such heat.... then again, if I was young and desperate for a job, who knows? Still the traffic dept need to be held responsible for such chaos.

  • dwayne.dick.5 - 2012-12-29 19:04

It is totally understandable, becoming a spoekop is a kool job you get a Gun a Bike and a CB, what more do you want?

  • Mike Peach Purchase - 2012-12-29 19:09

My condolences to more than 1000 people who have lost their lives this festive season,it nearly happened to me 3 times yesterday on a short trip fortunately i think ahead for the stupid while driving.

      david.banner.104418 - 2012-12-29 20:42

My Dads advice that I still use. When driving, everyone around you is an idiot. Anticipate it.

  • zahierm - 2012-12-29 19:10

TV footage of the 4km run paints a picture of a pretty disorganised event. No water or checkpoints along the route....this is simply shocking!

  • Mike Peach Purchase - 2012-12-29 19:11

George have you seen in kzn, zero tolerance, that actually means zero accountability.

  • dsundire - 2012-12-29 19:11

Why participate if u know u r chicken? Sad but honestly one must know when to stop. My condolences to the families.

  • sello.maponya.1 - 2012-12-29 19:17

The fitness test should have been jumping out of cover onto the road. Poor applicants would still be alive.

      berni.venter - 2012-12-29 19:26

      Good one Sello : D

      david.banner.104418 - 2012-12-29 20:05

Actually they stay under cover till knock off time. Maybe fitness test should involve unfolding deck chair, and pushing button on camera.

  • hein.huyser - 2012-12-29 19:22

This is a direct result of the anc's employment policy. Everyone can apply and everyone must get a chance at the honeypot. Now clearly some obese and unfit people were supposed to be disqualified on a medical test done on them. Everything the anc touches are ruined, even a simple application for a job. Or is this a case of people hearing a very well paying job with fringe benefits are there for the taking and unrealistic expectations are being created by the recruitment officers that caused a scramble to the trough? Sis man, the anc is disgusting Whoever is guilty of this, someone must answer

  • albert.hanekom.9 - 2012-12-29 19:22

Really people this is a fitness test not a marathon there not supposed to be waterpoints its about endurance its sad about the deaths but really if you know u won't make it don't try it and then blame the lack of water on organisers part.

      faizemo.bedi - 2012-12-29 20:09

You retarded idiot, marathon or fitness test, whats your point excatly? Did the latter deserve to die? Did these desperate individuals go into that scorching sun knowing they wont survive? Surely it should register in your diminished mind that all life is precious regardless of unforseen circumstances!

  • chris.jikijela.1 - 2012-12-29 19:24

Desperate peoaple killed by the goverment

  • goldwright - 2012-12-29 19:26

I live in Maritzburg, in the city, and it has been HOT for the last couple of weeks, even basic activity like housework is tiring - so it must be very strenuous running in heat of mid 30's with humidity, even if you are in your late teens/twenties - only the fittest will really cope and even then not without some discomfort. The traffic dept really do need to be held accountable for the loss of life.

  • roman.caesar.121 - 2012-12-29 19:28

i can just imagine that over sized ppl also applied for the job

  • louis.langenhoven - 2012-12-29 19:29

if this was not so tragic it would be funny. Something from a comedy like Police Academy. What on earth was going on here?

  • MUFHENI - 2012-12-29 19:29

Im so sori.GOD b in charge.Praise Jehova,Praise Rapha the healer! He knws why! Job or no job we al blong to him! DNT CRY GOD IS WATCHING PRAISE GOD,He knw everitng .AMEN!

      shannon.mcmurtrie.3 - 2012-12-29 19:32

Oh boy...Now you gonna get it!!

      tseabelo - 2012-12-30 23:20

Mufheni I would prefer silence from you. Praise the ALMIGHTY that people who needed jobs died? Rooting out corruption to create more jobs is more practical in assisting people to live instead of chanting religious phrases left right and centre expecting miracles to fall like mana from heaven. People like you are of no help because after those chants, desperate people are left in your desperation. I prefer Prayer accompanied by actual physical work ... Now that is more practical and self sustaining.

      tseabelo - 2012-12-30 23:25

Meant: people will still be left in DESPERATION.

  • eugene.muller.7 - 2012-12-29 19:36

Getting flashbacks of army training in Oudtshoorn back in 1992. Couple of times i thought i would die, but alas. here i am. pity for the loss of life...and to the family in this festive time.

  • ri.debeer - 2012-12-29 19:47

so tragic what become of this country

  • annelise.vanderschyff - 2012-12-29 19:52

This in inhuman disgusting behaviour by anc desperate people lookiing for employment may they RIP

  • makhosonke.mqikela - 2012-12-29 19:58

This should translate to a 'wake-up' to the so called authrities because the society has begged all these years to re-introduse these 'trainings' at primary school level otherwise we would not have obesity and associated problems that we experience nowadays. Condolenced to the affected families.

  • kitty2wp - 2012-12-29 19:58

This doesn't sound like a legal medically certified test to me - it sounds more like making a dog jump for a bone. Not one person died, 6 died - very suspicious to me.

  • Modikoe.Elias.Ramongana - 2012-12-29 20:12

The station should be held responsible, they let ppl do things as if they've long been in that training. They let them do too many things in few minutes of which its impoSsible.

  • marieta.grundling - 2012-12-29 20:13

4km is not a streneous test, irrespective of the temperature. No person who has only an average fitness level will dehydrate in such a short period of time. Most who pitched up were probably overweight, unfit and not properly hydrated when they started the test.

      marieta.grundling - 2012-12-29 20:15

although I have to add that it was probably a very poorly organized event. My sympathy to the families of these applicats who were trying to better their position.

      lee.brand.73 - 2012-12-29 20:22

ha - maybe not for you but in 100 percent humidity and they tell you that the first 90 in get the job? So it turns into a race? 30000 people pitched. 16000 did the test. How desperate are they? Is it only me who is sad about these poor people killing themselves to try to get a k*k little job?

      lacrimose.wolf - 2012-12-29 20:58

How do you have a 'short-list' of 16000 for a 90 vacancy post? 300 is barely conceivable. Bad, bad planning and too few elimination rounds (forgive the expression).

      themba.thwala.775 - 2012-12-29 21:03

Good question lacrimose. I think the idiots behind this wanted to put in extra hours so that they could claim overtime payment. It's absolutely ridiculous and they must be charged with murder

      ramjan.nadia - 2012-12-29 21:43

Yes its not a very strenuous test! But take all this into consideration as I was there! People were there from 6 in the morning! They were asked to wait in the sun for more than 15minutes before doing the test! There were NO ambulance service on standby! There was no place to get water in or outside the stadium!!!! Don't blame the poor people who are desperate for jobs in this country, and tried their best to make a better life for themselves! Its just sad that people can be so heartless when u don't know the full story behind this!!!!!!

  • WigzellRM - 2012-12-29 20:21

This is unbelievable. Someone needs to answer for it.

  • sifiso.buthelezi.923 - 2012-12-29 20:26

So sad. May God comfort their families. Seven people had to die in desperation for jobs trying to persue the earning of honest money while others are enjoying themselves out there because of their connections. But next year election campaigns for 2014 will be again saying JOBS,JOBS,JOBS.

      david.banner.104418 - 2012-12-29 20:29

The sad thing is. People will fall for those lies.

  • sam.brookes.735 - 2012-12-29 20:28

The persons in charge should be fired and charged with criminal neglect!

      Erna - 2012-12-30 00:49

      Culpable homicide.

  • faizemo.bedi - 2012-12-29 20:36

Traggic indeed, even more sad is the mocking by retarded fools with diminished brains

      lee.brand.73 - 2012-12-29 20:49

Ja. For once most of us agree that the blame lies with the authorities. But there is a group that delights at pointing fingers at the victims. I dont think they have any idea of the levels of desperation out there. They are unable to put themselves in a similar situation and try to understand why 6 people basicly killed themselves? This desperation is going to cause us problems - it goes beyond empathy to all kinds of civil strife.

  • Rammsteen - 2012-12-29 20:47

I just don't know how you officiate 15600 people, unless some road running body was involved?

  • J.A.Rademan - 2012-12-29 20:53

This is tantamount to negligent homicide. The minister should not be investigating. He should be investigated.

  • Sige Gorabeb - 2012-12-29 20:54

Sit at home in poverty and die in any case or die trying? They are heroes of the struggling masses. Their death must be a turning point in the struggle against a share of our wealth which sits in the pockets of a few select connected morons. RIP

      lee.brand.73 - 2012-12-29 21:11

Ja - they did something. They got off their asses, spent money they probably didnt have and died trying. People get medals for that.

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-12-30 12:18

Sige Gorabeb. Your wealth? You worked for it then?.
