Port Elizabeth - Six people accused of killing a 7-year-old girl during a violent exorcism will appear in the Humansdorp Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Pastor Lonwabo Hamilton Tanda was granted bail of R3 000 last month on condition he leave Humansdorp and stay with family in Motherwell, in the Eastern Cape.

He was also not allowed to conduct any "deliverance" prayers.

Four of his congregants were granted bail of R3 000 each and were ordered not to conduct any exorcisms.

A fifth congregant was granted R1 000 bail on the same conditions.

The six are accused of killing the girl while praying for her two weeks ago.

Her parents and the church members had believed she was possessed and needed to be prayed for.

During the exorcism, they realised the girl needed medical attention and tried to take her to hospital, but she died on the way there.

On the night of her death, police found bruises on her body and noted that her eyes were swollen.

A post mortem showed that she had sustained internal injuries.

Surely a little girl's life is worth more than R3000? Throw them back in jail and let them rot.

"Oh! Jesus, I just stuck the tip in, Oh! Ma Gaaawd". Frank Zappa, poking fun at Jimmy Swaggart, on the Broadway the hard way tour, after he’d been caught with a prostitute... This is the kind of s#$t that can happen when you believe in the preposterous.

Disturbing article! Don't believe in exorcisms as such.. but swollen eyes etc.. that's kind of creepy!

So praying kills now does it? Best we alert the Church elders!

Do you have no idea what happens during these 'exorcisms'? DO you really think it is a bunch of people sitting with a little girl and praying peacefully? Good that you have so much empathy with the murdered child. Hold on... actually... you have NONE.

Another innocent death goes to the church. Anyone keeping score?

Please read the previous stories on this incident. The girl experienced epileptic seizures. Her grandmother told the mother to go to the church so that the pastor can drive out the evil spirits through faith-healing (prayer). Their processes differ, but is mostly a physical assault on the person with epilepsy. Most probably, medication could have controlled the seizures.

You are right but these people hail from the bronze age and haven't moved forward. Give them half a chance and they'll be burning witches next
