Durban – Six people were injured when a truck and a car collided at the intersection of Clark and Manning road in Umbilo, Durban on Thursday afternoon, KwaZulu-Natal emergency services said.

Rescue Care spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said when paramedics arrived on the scene, they found that the truck had come to rest on its side, balancing against the wall of a property.

He said the truck driver and one assistant were trapped in the truck.

"Paramedics climbed into the truck and stabilised the two whilst Durban Fire and Rescue prepared the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment," he said.

The patients were freed from the truck and transported to hospital. One other assistant was also injured and taken to hospital.

Jamieson said three people in the car had sustained various injuries and were also stabilised on the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital.

It was unclear what caused the collision, however. The police would be investigating further, he said.
