6 killed, 69 injured in KZN road accidents

Durban - Six people were killed and 69 others were injured on KwaZulu-Natal's roads on Friday evening, emergency medical services said.

On the South Coast, two cars, a bakkie and two taxis collided at the South Broom traffic lights leaving 30 people injured, Netcare911 spokesperson Chris Botha said.

Two people were critically injured, nine people sustained serious injuries and 19 had minor injuries.

They were treated on the scene before being taken to a nearby hospital.

In a separate incident, two women died and three others were injured when the car they were travelling in overturned along the N2 near Ifafa, KwaZulu-Natal emergency medical services spokesperson Robert McKenzie said.

Near Thornville, three people were injured when a truck overturned on the R56, McKenzie said. They were treated on the scene.

On the N2 near Harding, four people were killed and 10 others were injured when a car and a minibus collided. 

Near Ramsgate, 23 people were injured in a crash involving five vehicles along the R61, McKenzie said.

Patients were treated on the scene.
