Durban - Six people were killed in a crash involving two vehicles in Belfast, Mpumalanga, on Saturday night, the Road Traffic Management Corporation said.

RTMC spokesperson Simon Zwane said a light delivery vehicle collided head-on with a sedan.

The exact cause of the accident was still being investigated by authorities.

The RTMC urged motorists to drive carefully over the weekend and respect all the rules of the roads.

It said statistics indicated that crashes increased over weekends, especially after people had been paid.

"Speed, alcohol abuse and overtaking on barrier are some of the major causes of fatal crashes in the country. Motorists are reminded to always respect road signs and take responsibility while on the roads," said Zwane.
