6-vehicle M1 crash causes chaos

2013-02-07 09:04

Johannesburg - A multiple-vehicle accident on the M1 north, between the Booysens offramp and the Xavier Street onramp, left at least 25 people with various injuries on Thursday morning, Johannesburg metro police said.

Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the accident involved three minibus taxis, two cars and a bakkie.

The injured were taken to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital and Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.

"The cause of the accident will be investigated and the reckless driver who caused the crash will be charged," Minnaar said.

Peak morning traffic was heavily affected but has since returned to normal.

Not surprised to hear that 50% of the accident was made up by taxis. That seems to be the regular ratio. I hope the people involved get through it okay!!

maybe only 50% this time but i think are responsible for at least 80% of the accidents on sa roads, hope the injured are ok and wish the gov would try and regulate these irresponsable taxi industry.

And then the taxi lordship drivers whilst breaking every road-rule and intimidating you as a female co-road user, sit with broad smiles on their faces, rocking up and down in their seats while music is blaring away on their radios and with taxi falling apart and yet NOTHING sweet blue boggerol is done about this - once again, thank you Mr Wayne Minaar and your cronies!!!

Gee, I wonder who really caused the accident? I won't mention anyone but the TAXI's are lawless and don't care about the rules of the road or anyone for that matter. They are willing to risk peoples lives for a few bucks.

      Erna - 2013-02-07 10:09

You won't mention anyone but we also note that three taxis are involved!

  • Swapie - 2013-02-07 09:23

Oh, those taxi's are at it again.

3 Minibus taxis? I'm not surprised. I drive on that rd, although at about 04H30 to 04H45, and the minibusses at that time drive to beat Lewis Hamilton.

      msophiasharp - 2013-02-07 10:05

Also wondering how many JMPD Cops are co-owners of taxis....

      allan.m.levitt - 2013-02-07 10:18

Thaluki, Lewis Hamilton wiped out his Maclaren yesterday. Maybe he is trying to beat the taxi records!!

      thaluki.malema - 2013-02-07 11:57

@allan.m.levitt - Lewis now drives for Mercedes, he left McLaren, but I get your message & like your sence of humour. LoL.

Should we not petition governement to only allow taxis to drive on certain roads i.e. no ther vehicles allowed on those roads similar to the bus srvice that has reduced the main roads in JHb from 4 lanes to 3 in that way we can miss the poor driving habits and they (the taxi drivers) will only have themselves to blame if ther is an accident

  • msophiasharp - 2013-02-07 10:02

Jislaaik is Wayne Minnaar still alive and his cronies He NEVER responds to telephone messages or faxes, neither to newspapers Also his cronies (JMPD traffic representatives) are never seen when there is a power outage and traffic lights are not working with motorists having to chance and wing it.....

These taxi drivers are the pits. I always pick someone up at the station and this specific day ( like a week ago) I picked up the lady and indicate that I am going back in the lane and lo an behold far behind me a taxi driver flicked his lights at me. Cut a long story short he then victimised me on the road. I got angry and gave him the finger. At the next traffic light he stopped got out of his vehicle grab the door (I might just add the lady forgot to lock her door) opened it and abused me with vile language and spit on me. They have their own rules of the road and can do whatever they want.

And to top it off, the survivors are shipped off to CH Bara and Charlotte Maxeke. Maybe better to bleed on the road! RIP.

I don't agree that it's just taxis.I travel on the M2 towards Germiston and the biggest problem there is the trucks and lorries, that drive to fast fully loaded.

  • HJS - 2013-02-07 10:38

Why am I not in the least surprised to read/see there were taxis involved?
