Kimberley - Northern Cape police are investigating a case of murder after the body of a 6-year-old boy was found near a railway line in Friedlander Street, De Aar, police said on Friday.

The body was found by a passer-by on Thursday morning, said police spokesperson Olebogeng Tawana.

Tawana said the boy was last seen on Wednesday, allegedly in the company of his mother's boyfriend.

He said the man was still at large.

"We believe that he could assist the police in this case. Wherever he is he should avail himself or report to the nearest police station or report at De Aar police station," he said.

No arrests have yet been made.
