Johannesburg - Seven people appeared in the Postmasburg Magistrate's Court, Northern Cape, on Friday on charges of fraud, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said.

Onkaeleng Makape, Keikatsemang Sebotse, Thataetaetsile Motshoari, Motsumi Mabilu, Eric Theys, Zolile Mpetshene, and Anna English were released on R10 000 bail each, spokesperson Mashudu Maladi said.

The case was postponed to 3 June.

The group was arrested on Friday morning for allegedly stealing R1.2m meant for community development in Tsantsabane, the Hawks said.

Hawks spokesperson Paul Ramaloko said they were Tsantsabane Community Trust board members.

Two of them worked for the Tsantsabane local municipality.

The seven allegedly took R1.2m of an amount of R2.7m that had been deposited to the trust's account for development.
