7 die as truck, van collide head-on

Johannesburg - Seven people were killed after a truck and van collided head-on in Pienaarsrivier, late on Saturday night, police said.

“Seven people who were in the van died instantly and only the driver survived with serious injuries,” said Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe.

The two men travelling in the truck, which was carrying heavy bags, escaped unscathed.

The collision took place just after 22:45 in the R101 between Pienaarsrivier and the Ga-Maubane off ramp.

A case of culpable homicide has been opened.  The bodies of those who died are still being identified.
