Johannesburg - Seven high school pupils were arrested for stealing school supplies in Viljoenskroon, Free State police said on Wednesday.

Kgabareng High School's principal reported on Monday that school property was missing, said police spokesperson Stephen Thakeng.

The Grade 8 and 9 pupils, aged between 15 and 17, were arrested on Tuesday night after a tip-off, he said.

In their possession, police found 42 scientific calculators, nine sets of mathematical instruments, 10 staplers, 48 pens and pencils, rulers, crayons, two computer speakers, 20l of juice, and a kettle.

"We discovered that some of the items were stolen at Thabang High School in January and May," Thakeng said.

He said one of the pupils was from Kgabareng High School and the others from Thabang High School. They would appear in the Viljoenskroon Magistrate's Court on Friday on charges of housebreaking.
