Johannesburg - A 7-year-old boy survived a taxi crash that killed two women outside Witbank in the early hours on Friday morning, paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said the taxi was travelling from Maputo to Johannesburg when it rolled on the N12 about 20km outside Witbank.

Two women, in their 30s and 40s, died on the scene.

"Other patients were found lying and sitting on the grass. The patients, including the taxi driver, were found to have sustained minor to moderate injuries. Among them was a boy believed to be 7-years-old," said Bodasing.

Fourteen people suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital.
