Durban - Eight people were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the murders of two KwaZulu-Natal pensioners, one of whom was strangled with the tubes of her oxygen tank.

Captain Thulani Zwane said the eight were arrested in the early hours of the morning.

The bodies of John and Hester Noble were found in their Shongweni Valley home last week by neighbours.

Hester, 68, who was suffering from emphysema, was strangled with the tubes of her oxygen tank. John, 72, was strangled with a wire. He was gagged and his hands were tied behind his back.

Their house had been ransacked and trashed, and their car stolen.

Zwane said four of the eight men arrested had been charged with murder, and the other four with receiving stolen items, which were believed to belong to the couple.

He said they were expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

The Witness reported on Tuesday that the couple's son said he is prepared to forgive the killers as the family does not want to harbour bitterness.

John Noble jnr, 47, said his parents had recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They left behind two children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
