8 die in North West Easter accidents

Johannesburg - Eight people have died since the start of the Easter weekend in four separate accidents in the North West, police said on Saturday.

One man died when he crashed into a bridge on the N4 near Majakaneng on Friday morning, said spokesperson Simon Lesolang Mmope.

Three people, the driver and two women, died when a minibus taxi and a Volkswagen Golf collided on the R501 between Potchefstroom and Carletonville.

Another three people died in an accident on Nelson Mandela drive in Potchefstroom when two cars collided, said Mmope.

"According to reports the two vehicles caught fire after the collision."

A cyclist also died when he was knocked over by a car on the Koster-Swartruggens Road on Friday.
