Johannesburg - Seven suspected drug dealers were kept in custody while one was released on a warning after appearing briefly in the Bela Bela Magistrate's Court on Thursday, Limpopo police said.

Their case was remanded to 22 December for further investigation, said police spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi.

Steve Hlongwane, 39, Jan Hlongwane, 30, Bernard Matlaila, 34, David Mabetwa, 34, Julius Aphiri, 55, Micheal Manamela, and George Khoza, 29, were kept in custody, while Mahlatsi Aphiri, 28, was released on warning.

They were arrested on Wednesday after they were allegedly found in possession of nyaope and heroin worth over R100 000 during a multi-disciplinary operation led by provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Fanie Masemola together with crime intelligence, the tactical response team (TRT), the Hawks, and the K9 unit.

A 9mm firearm with 25 live rounds, R24 000 cash, handcuffs, an axe, two butcher knives and various types of capsules believed to be used for manufacturing nyaope were seized.
