Johannesburg - Eight men who allegedly used the boss's long-haul, heavy duty truck to transport counterfeit goods into South Africa will appear in the Benoni Magistrate's Court on Monday, police said.

According to Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department spokesperson Clifford Shongwe, the truck owner sent the truck to Mozambique to deliver a load of soap powder.

He started worrying when it didn't return within the usual time it takes to get back from such a trip and contacted his tracking company to locate it.

It was found in Cloverdene, Benoni.

He asked the police to go with him to the truck because he was scared that it might have been hijacked.

When they got there, they found bales of fake clothes and other counterfeit branded gear, including Nike products.

The eight, including the truck driver, were arrested. A look through their pockets revealed wads of US dollar bills.

The goods were taken into police storage and the truck was taken to the pound.
