Here are eight things you might not have known about Mmusi Maimane, the newly elected leader of the Democratic Alliance:

1. Maimane was born in Dobsonville, Soweto, on June 6 1980.

2. He is the oldest of four children

3. He loves hanging out at a chesa nyama!

4. He is a preacher at Discovery Church in Randburg, but he said he was most likely to reconsider preaching after his election as DA leader.

5. He gets along well with Economic Freedom Fighters’ leader Julius Malema

6. He stays at Acacia Park in Cape Town

7. He supports the Lions Rugby Team and Kaizer Chiefs

8. He quoted two iconic authors Nadine Gordimer and Maya Angelou in his acceptance speech.

Quoting Gordimer: “A truly living human being cannot remain neutral.”

Quoting Angelou: “The thing to do, it seems to me, is to prepare yourself so you can be a rainbow in somebody else’s cloud. Somebody who may not look like you. Who may not call God the same name you call God - if they call God at all. I may not dance your dances or speak your language. But be a blessing to somebody.”
