Johannesburg – A clerk at a North West milling business has been jailed for eight years for defrauding her employer of R2m, the Hawks said on Wednesday.

The Wolmaransstad Regional Court sentenced Marietie van der Walt, 54, on Monday, spokesperson Tlangelani Rikhotso said. She was not given the option of paying a fine.

She worked as a financial clerk for a milling company in Leeudoringstad. Her work involved receiving money and issuing receipts and invoices. Between 2014 and 2015, she issued fictitious credit notes and kept money for herself.

Provincial head of the Hawks, Major-General Linda Mbana, welcomed the conviction and applauded the investigators for their work.
