Durban – Eighty people were injured in a bus crash on the Mangosuthu Highway in Umlazi on Wednesday morning, KwaZulu-Natal paramedics said.

One bus slammed into the rear of another, ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said.

"Paramedics arrived on the scene and found the two buses still wedged together on the side of the road. Numerous occupants were found seated on the side of the road, while some occupants were found climbing out of the vehicle."

A triage area was set up and passengers were assessed. About 80 people sustained injuries, ranging from minor to moderate. None of the injuries were serious.

The victims were taken to various local hospitals. The cause of the collision was still being investigated.
