Johannesburg - A woman and eight men have been arrested for stealing parts from a broken down truck near Rustenburg in the North West, police said on Tuesday.

The truck broke down with mechanical problems on the road in Ramatlabama Village around noon on Monday, Constable Dudu Zwane said.

The driver left the vehicle at the roadside and went to Rustenburg to buy parts.

"When he returned a short while later, he found people stripping the truck of its parts and called the police," Zwane said.

"The first load of stolen parts had already been transported to the nearby scrap yard for sale."

The woman arrested is the owner of the scrap yard to which the parts were delivered.

They were all expected to face a charge of theft in the Mafikeng Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
