Polokwane - Ten people died when a bakkie and a minibus taxi collided head-on near the De Hoop Dam, near Burgersfort in Limpopo, on Sunday afternoon.

The double-cab bakkie, which was travelling in the direction of Steelpoort, made a U-turn and collided with the oncoming taxi, police spokesperson Captain Mamphaswa Seabi said.

The driver of the bakkie died on impact. A 2-year-old who was in the vehicle with him was unharmed.

However, another 2-year-old was among the nine in the taxi who died in the crash.

Seven people were injured and rushed to hospital.

A case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
